Firehouse Subs
Social Media App: Design & Dev
In efforts to help its guests live healthier lives, Firehouse of America, LLC teamed up with S4 to build a responsive web application where users can share and complete a series of healthy challenges. The ASP.NET MVC website exhibits an easy-to-use challenge form, social media integration and a fun, flavorful photo gallery.
Project Goals
During the process of application and database development, Station Four made sure to keep in mind Firehouse Subs’ end goals for the project—drive restaurant traffic through challenges, drive awareness and trial of the new Hearty & Flavorful menu via reward offers, and share challenges.

Design
We designed the homepage to be colorful, concise and challenge-focused. The homepage is where users learn how to participate, enter entry information and easily share the app via various social media outlets. We built the website to be responsive—so, no matter the device being used, the website adapts for user-friendly and efficient challenge entry.
The challenges page is equally easy-to-use and a cinch to navigate. Users provide proof of challenge completion by uploading photos for the challenges presented. At the bottom of the page, they can have fun viewing other previously entered challengers and their proof photos.
Development
The Hearty & Flavorful Challenge application includes a range of features and functionality. Here are a few of the website’s central components:
- Challenge Form: The main focus of the project involved developing a form where users can enter their email address, zip code and upload a photo for challenge completion proof. Participation data is collected on the back end to identify participants and their categories accordingly.
- Public Photo Gallery: The website includes a public gallery for viewing previously approved entries for the Healthy & Hearty 2014 Challenge.
- Admin, Reports & Moderation: The protected area of the application allows administrators to review submissions and approve or deny them. In addition, reports (Exported to Excel) are generated and contain user and challenge information for Firehouse Subs’ internal review.
